Hoping someone can answer this... I am having difficulty finding documentation on a 2007 to 2010 exchange migration for a SINGLE exchange server environment.
I have (1) Exchange 2007 server, with all the roles installed.
I want to create (1) Exchange 2010 server, with all the roles installed.
All the documentation I find talks about FIRST creating just a server with the CAS role. I don't see the need for this. (Q1) Can't I just install a new Exchange 2010 server with ALL the roles right away?
And the answer to Q1 is yes, then (Q2) Can I install that new Exchange 2010 server with all the roles, and NOT affect ANY access to my current Exchange 2007 server so long as all my user's mailboxes continue to stay on the Exchange 2007 server?
I guess I'm trying to verify that I can bring the Exchange 2010 server into the environment, and not effect ANYTHING, until the time I am ready to start migrating mailboxes, etc.
